After a major disaster, there won’t be any medical help available. You will have to be able to provide first aid and deal with any medical emergencies yourself. This prepper’s list of health and medical equipment covers everything you need to stay healthy and deal with medical and dental emergencies.
First Aid Kit
A good first aid kit is absolutely vital for all preppers, and is probably the most important thing on the prepper’s medical list. In a major disaster, medical care won’t be immediately available, and minor injuries could easily become serious if not treated.
Medications
Make sure that you build up a stock of any medications that you need regularly. Also include painkillers, anti-inflammatories and diarrhoea medication as these will be hard to come by after a major disaster.
Vitamins & Minerals
A normal balanced diet gives you all the vitamins and minerals you need. After a major disaster however, you might not be able to eat a fully balanced diet. Multivitamin and mineral tablets can make up for this.

Medical Books
After a major disaster there might not be medical help, and you might also not be able to access the internet. Books are really important to make sure you have knowledge available when you need it. There are a couple of great medical books that explain how to take care of yourself and your family when medical help isn’t available. They are The Survival Doctor’s Complete Handbook and Where There Is No Doctor.

Dental Emergency Kit
Dental equipment is often overlooked by preppers, but is just as important as a first aid kit. In a post-apocalyptic world, professional dental care won’t be available. You need to be able to deal with tooth and gum pain as well as broken or rotting teeth.
Take a look at our article on How To Make Your Own Dental Emergency Kit.
Dental Book
Having a dental emergency kit is great, but not much use without the knowledge of how to use it. Where There Is No Dentist is a companion to the Where There Is No Doctor book mentioned above. It covers all aspects of dental care with limited equipment. It includes how to diagnose dental problems, make and use dental tools, apply fillings and remove teeth.
Tick Removal
Ticks are small blood sucking insects that carry some very serious diseases, including Lyme’s disease. The ticks will attach themselves to your skin if you brush past long grass or other vegetation that they are in. The safest way to remove them to cut the risk of getting a disease from them is with a tick removal tool.
