Paper maps are an under-rated part of a prepper’s kit. In any kind of major disaster scenario, you might need to find your way to new places. You might even need a paper map to be able to find your way home.
Even under normal circumstances, when nothing bad has happened, paper maps are really useful. After a disaster, however, they become absolutely vital. We recently published Five Reasons You Really Need A Paper Map. Just to emphasize how important it is to buy paper maps, here are another ten reasons you should buy a paper map!
BUY A PAPER MAP OF YOUR STATE NOW
Paper Maps Don’t Need Batteries
GPS devices and smartphones are incredibly useful for navigation, but they have one major flaw: they run on batteries. In an emergency situation, there may not be any way to recharge your devices, which means that your GPS could become useless when you need it most. A paper map, on the other hand, doesn’t require any batteries, so you can use it as long as you need to.
Paper Maps Can’t Lose Signal
Another issue with GPS devices and smartphones is that they rely on a strong signal from a cell tower or satellite. If you’re in a remote location, there may not be any signal at all, making it impossible to use your GPS. With a paper map, you don’t need to worry about whether or not you have a signal – you can always use it to navigate.
Better for Route Planning
When you’re planning a route, a paper map can be much more useful than a GPS. With a paper map, you can see the bigger picture, which can help you plan a more efficient route. You can also mark up the map with notes, which can help you remember important landmarks or hazards along the way.
More Detailed Information
While GPS devices can be very accurate, they often lack the level of detail that you can find on a paper map. A paper map can show you things like the contour lines of the terrain, which can be useful when planning a route. You can also see the names of nearby towns and landmarks, which can be helpful when you’re trying to find your way.
Paper Maps Are Easy to Use
Paper maps are incredibly easy to use, even if you’ve never used one before. They don’t require any special training or technical knowledge – all you need to do is unfold the map and start using it.
Long-Lasting
Paper maps are much more durable than electronic devices. They won’t break if you drop them, and they can withstand exposure to the elements. A paper map can last for years, making it a reliable tool for your prepping kit.
Great Backup To GPS
Even if you prefer to use a GPS or smartphone for navigation, a paper map can be a great backup in case something goes wrong. If your GPS fails or your smartphone dies, you’ll still have a reliable way to navigate.
Paper Maps Are Inexpensive
Paper maps are very affordable, especially when compared to the cost of a GPS device or smartphone. You can buy a high-quality paper map for just a few pounds, making it a cost-effective addition to your prepping kit.
Paper Maps Can’t Be Hacked
GPS devices and smartphones are vulnerable to hacking, which could compromise your ability to navigate. With a paper map, you don’t need to worry about hackers – the only thing that can interfere with your navigation is a little bit of rain or wind.
Historical Value
Finally, paper maps have a certain historical value that electronic devices just can’t match. They have been used for centuries to navigate the world, and they represent a time when people had to rely on their own skills and knowledge to find their way. By including a paper map in your prepping kit, you’re not only ensuring that you have a reliable way to navigate in an emergency situation, but you’re also connecting with a long history of human navigation.
Paper Maps For Preppers
A paper map is a crucial tool that every prepper should have in their kit. It’s reliable, long-lasting, easy to use, and can provide more detailed information than electronic devices. Make sure you add a high-quality paper map to your prepping kit now – you won’t regret it.
