Well this is a prepping website, so I’m not going to say preppers are crazy! Or at least, prepping as in being prepared for realistic emergencies and disaster scenarios is definitely not crazy and is vital to be able to deal with anything that happens. Anyone who has something as simple as a first aid kit could be considered a prepper. The most likely emergency that you’ll have to deal with is a minor injury, and even a basic first aid kit will be able to help in this scenario.
Preppers are often portrayed in the films, books, or the media as slightly crazy people living in an underground bunker, who think the world is going to end any day soon. This just isn’t the case for most preppers, although there are those that are stocking up on weapons ready for the zombie apocalypse, but without preparing for more likely disaster scenarios. These preppers are what makes people think that preppers are crazy!
Many prepping websites, books and videos focus on the most extreme scenarios while not considering surviving any less extreme disasters. They even have acronyms such as TEOTWAWKI (The End Of The World As We Know It) which becomes a focus of prepping, and can lead to missing really obvious things that might become much more important in a real emergency situation.
Instead of prepping for the end of the world, base your prepping on realistic risk scenarios, starting with those that are more likely. Feel free to carry on to prep for TEOTWAWKI afterwards, but the time and budget spent on prepping is limited for most of us, so we need to prioritise what we prep for using the most likely scenarios first.
The Disaster Scenarios section of this website covers many scenarios, from the simple and more common to the much more severe and less likely scenarios. These scenarios each include advice for prepping, as well as looking at what to do during each of the disaster scenarios.
The ukprepper.life family are UK preppers who love to be prepared for everything, from the minor day to day emergencies, all the way to major disasters and more. Between us we have many years of experience prepping, and we’d love to share our experiences with you.
